While this is a measure to protect people, submitting a request is not a 100% guarantee that content will be removed. YouTube says it considers “a variety of factors” when deciding whether to remove a video, including whether the content “contains parody, satire, or other public interest value” and “whether celebrities or public figures are engaging in sensitive behavior, such as criminal activity, violence, or endorsing a product or politician.”
It also takes into account whether the content creator disclosed to viewers that the video was created by genAI.
If someone files a privacy complaint against a video, the uploader has 48 hours to respond. This means they can choose to either remove the likeness from the video or delete the video altogether. If the uploader doesn't respond within 48 hours, YouTube will step in and start a review of the video. If violations are found, the uploaded video may be removed.
YouTube also warns that if an uploader is a repeat offender, their account may be terminated.
“If we remove a video for violating privacy, please do not upload another version featuring the same person, as these people will likely file another privacy violation complaint or report you for harassment,” the company said. “We take protecting our users seriously and will terminate accounts that violate people's privacy.”
