The threat of AI content is real for platforms like YouTube, and users are being given more power to avoid being duped by these videos. The platform is offering new AI-centric guidelines and updates to help users identify and report AI-generated videos so others can be aware of them too.
The onus is equally on content creators, and YouTube will require them to disclose if they use AI tools to edit or modify content published on the platform. All technology companies recognize that they need to label this content, whether it's images, videos, or even audio. YouTube will provide its own labels that will make these types of videos more visible when you watch them.
It gets tougher
AI is used to create videos, and the content can easily mislead people by synthesizing visuals with popular celebrities, which is the root cause of the deepfake video problem. However, YouTube knows that labels alone are not enough to curb the spread of these videos. The platform ensures that if a synthetic video violates its community policies, the content will be removed immediately.

But that's not all. As long as the content isn't parody or satire, users also have the power to report such videos and share details of their concerns. YouTube wants to ensure that these reports come from legitimate people and not from bots operating in the wild. YouTube gives creators 48 hours to address flagged AI content and either edit the affected portion or remove the video entirely to avoid further sanctions and penalties.
All these rules and policies sound great, but it's crucial that YouTube enforces these terms and doesn't give any leeway to violators, otherwise there would be no point in having these rules in place in the first place.
