AI-generated videos are becoming very realistic, making it increasingly difficult to identify a fake version of someone online. This causes concern for creators. What happens if my face appears in a video I didn’t make?
YouTube is addressing this issue by expanding its AI similarity detection system to a larger group of creators. Eligible users will have new tools to monitor and report AI-generated videos that mimic them. The system will initially be tested in a small pilot within the YouTube Partner Program and will soon be available to all eligible creators over the age of 18.
This tool, accessible through YouTube Studio, helps creators detect when their likeness has been used in a composite or altered video. It scans AI-generated content that resembles the creator’s face, allowing users to review suspicious videos and request removal if they violate privacy policies.
This is critical because AI impersonators, including deepfake videos, can imitate facial expressions, voices, and speech patterns with high precision, risking damaging the reputation of creators and spreading misinformation.
YouTube’s goal is to give creators better insight into how their images are being used and help viewers avoid confusion.
To enable this feature, creators can go to YouTube Studio and[コンテンツ検出]>[類似度]and follow the permission and confirmation steps.
Once launched, the system will automatically scan for AI-altered videos using a lookalike. If a match is found, creators can review and request removal directly in YouTube Studio.
The platform also notes that flagged videos may not appear immediately, but this doesn’t indicate a problem, just that such content doesn’t exist yet. The system continues to operate in the background, highlighting broader changes across online platforms. AI tools are advancing faster than moderation systems can keep up.
Companies are under pressure to develop safeguards against identity abuse, synthetic media, and deepfakes before the problem escalates. For YouTube creators, this new detection system could become one of the most important safety tools in the AI era.
