Personal Avatar is the first new feature I’m mentioning, and all you need to do is submit a selfie and audio recording to create your own custom digital avatar that looks and sounds just like you. The second update is the introduction of Google’s AI model. gemini omni Google Vids.

With these updates, you can now create your own custom videos using simple prompts and uploaded reference photos to bring your vision to life. Omni mashes up these inputs and the result is the personalized AI video you’ve been dreaming of.

You can make small adjustments to your content to make your Google Vid stand out by adding a different background, adjusting the video’s lighting, or adding other post-production effects.

And even when errors occur, Omni lets you step through video editing to streamline the process. This is a nice update compared to the old method of scrapping the entire project and starting from scratch.

Gone are the days of Google Vids as an AI-assisted workplace tool, and these updates have evolved the platform into a full-fledged video creation tool. Now that Vids is part of Google Workspace, you can use it to create videos tailored to your business communications materials (think onboarding videos).

Personal avatars can help make this content more personalized and conversational, further increasing viewer engagement.

While this isn’t the first tool of its kind (see HeyGen and Synthesia for examples of those that already exist), having Google’s name associated with this type of AI-assisted video creation will likely create significant competition.
