Xbox producers say laidback developers can use AI for “emotional clarity”

Applications of AI

Matt Turnbull, who worked as an executive producer at Xbox Game Studios for nearly 15 years, has contributed directly to the development of games such as Forza Motorsport 4 and State of Decay 2, sharing interesting suggestions from layoff workers.

On July 4th, following Microsoft's announcement of 9,000 job cuts, he advised his LinkedIn profile to help affected employees rely on AI. How did you finish? After attracting attention online, the posts had to be quickly deleted.

In the post, Turnbull expressed sympathy for those affected by the layoffs and shared his belief that AI tools such as ChatGpt and Copilot can help them deal with the situation.

Turnbull shared that he has been experimenting with these tools for a while and felt it was important to provide advice on how AI can help reduce the emotional and cognitive loads associated with unemployment.

“These are truly challenging times. If you're navigating layoffs or preparing quietly, you don't have to go alone, not alone,” Turnbull said.

“I know these types of tools bring strong emotions to people, but I repent for not trying to provide the best advice possible under circumstances. I have tried ways to use LLM AL tools (such as ChatGpt and Copilot) to reduce the emotional and cognitive load that comes with unemployment.”
