Wipro has developed 2,000 AI use cases: COO – Digital Transformation News

AI News

IT services major Wipro has successfully completed over 2,000 customer proofs of concept (POCs) in the artificial intelligence (AI) space, with another 300 in progress, Wipro Chief Operating Officer Sanjeev Jain told the Financial Times.

“Wipro has made great strides in identifying potential applications across all the sectors we are involved in,” he said. “These achievements span a variety of outcomes including improving healthcare outcomes, optimizing contact center efficiency, increasing financial advisor productivity, content generation and summarizing engineering documents,” he added.

Jain was appointed as Wipro's new COO in May after his predecessor Amit Chaudhary stepped down. Jain had joined the IT company as its head of global business operations in 2023.

Wipro's AI initiatives have not only helped it serve customers more efficiently but also optimized its internal operations: Jain said the company has seen a 65% expansion in AI use cases, a 140% increase in proofs of concept (POCs), and 40% implementation of industry-specific AI-driven solutions.

“We have high impact use cases focused on demand and supply forecasting, bench optimization, on-time fulfillment etc,” Jain said. “The power of our talent intelligence platform enables Wipro teams to staff projects based on available employee skills, increasing internal mobility and upskilling the overall workforce,” he added.

Additionally, the Bengaluru-headquartered company is using AI in its HR department to improve recruitment results and verify candidates' backgrounds.

“In the sales space, pre-sales processes have been significantly enhanced, resulting in faster time to close deals and improved customer satisfaction. Additionally, marketing has seen increased productivity in content generation and improved marketing strategies,” Jain said.

Talent Space

Asked if AI developments will impact existing jobs, Jain said that as AI will work alongside humans, it will not only help grow the business but also allow employees to focus on strategic actions. He further said that Wipro is adapting to the evolving talent market by creating new roles such as “Prompt Engineers and AI Practitioners”.

“The talent market is rapidly evolving with changing skill requirements and Gen AI is improving productivity across sectors. AI will work alongside humans to drive business growth and enable employees to focus on strategic actions. Future professionals will need to be equipped with strong business, domain and leadership skills to thrive in this AI-driven environment,” Jain said.

New COO's priorities

Jain emphasised that the focus remains on optimising the company's performance through margin expansion and revenue growth, while investing in managing business continuity, strengthening risk and compliance, and enabling career democratisation and role rotation.

On the innovation front, Jain said the company is investing in AI through its ai360 initiative, which includes a $1 billion investment to integrate AI into all the tools and solutions it offers. Wipro is also expanding its AI capabilities with new developments at its research and development arm, Lab45, and upskilling its workforce for an AI-driven era.

Jain also mentioned about enhancing delivery management, leveraging AI for analytics and customer centricity initiatives to improve customer satisfaction. In terms of talent development, Wipro has trained over 225,000 employees on basic AI and over 30,000 employees on more advanced levels of AI.
