This week in small business technology news
Small Business Technology News #1 – Microsoft warns: Windows 11 agent functionality may cause hallucinations.
Microsoft has introduced experimental agent AI features in Windows 11, but warns that these features can cause hallucinations, produce unexpected output, and pose new security risks. These features are optional and must be enabled manually with clear warnings about potential instability and vulnerabilities. Microsoft acknowledges that current limitations in model behavior may cause AI agents to produce inaccurate or unexpected output. New attack techniques such as “cross-prompt injection” can trick agents into executing malicious instructions hidden in documents or UI elements, which can lead to malware installation, data leakage, or unauthorized actions. Until Microsoft updates these tools with better protection, they are best treated as experimental and should only be enabled by users who understand the potential consequences. (Source:TechPowerUp)
Why this is important for small businesses:
There are already so many uncertainties about the accuracy and reliability of AI that this announcement doesn't help. But why would a tech company release a product with “current limitations on model behavior”? What kind of business owner or professional would consider using these tools when the companies that make them say from the beginning that they don't work well?
Small Business Technology News #2 – Construction workers are capitalizing on the AI boom.
The AI boom is creating lucrative opportunities for construction workers, especially those building large data centers for tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. High demand and a shortage of nearly 500,000 workers have seen wages for skilled tradesmen rise 25 to 30 percent, with some earning well over $200,000 a year. Example: Demond Chambliss, a former drywall business owner in Ohio, now oversees 200 employees at a data center site and earns more than $100,000 annually. In Oregon, electrical safety specialist Mark Benner makes $225,000 a year. These jobs include perks like heated rest tents, free lunch, and bonuses of up to $100 per day. Some companies offer remote project management roles, expanding opportunities beyond on-site labor. This surge highlights how AI infrastructure demands are reshaping the labor market and creating both opportunities and challenges across the construction industry. (Source: TechCrunch)
Why this is important for small businesses:
The benefits extend beyond the data center. We believe that thanks to AI, the number of contractors and other people who work with their hands will skyrocket. This is because these types of jobs are not going to be replaced by technology any time soon. Plumbers, electricians, landscapers, you name it, these are going to become more popular as higher-paying jobs.
Small Business Technology News #3 – Amazon releases an AI agent that it says can operate for days at a time.
Isabel Busquet wall street journal We reported that Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced “Frontier Agent.” This is a new class of autonomous AI systems designed to operate for hours or even days without human supervision. Announced at this year's re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, these agents aim to automate complex enterprise tasks such as software development, security, and DevOps, and represent one of AWS' most ambitious efforts into agent AI. AWS CEO Matt Garman said that after a “tremendous amount” of software engineering, these agents can now sustain long-running tasks without the need for human guidance. He added that while the company took a “half step back” in the early days of the AI boom, Frontier Agents has put Amazon back on the map for AI innovation. AWS is betting that agent AI will be the backbone of future enterprise operations, with the promise that agents will code, secure, and manage systems for days without human intervention. (Source: Wall Street Journal)
Why this is important for small businesses:
This is an inevitable next step. Agents don't just perform a single task, they run around and perform many tasks throughout the day, just like human workers. Of course, this assumes that these agents do not hallucinate to the point that their work becomes unreliable and useless.
Small Business Technology News #4 – AI drives a record $11.8 billion in online spending on Black Friday.
According to Adobe Analytics, U.S. consumers spent a record $11.8 billion online on Black Friday in 2025. This was a 9.1% increase from last year's $10.8 billion, driven primarily by mobile shopping and AI-powered tools, despite ongoing inflation and economic uncertainty. AI-driven traffic to US retail sites has surged 805% compared to last year. Globally, AI agents impact $14.2 billion in online sales, of which $3 billion comes from U.S. consumers. (Source: Reuters)
Why this is important for small businesses:
Thanks to AI, products are automatically recommended to shoppers based on their other purchases and actions. Reminders will be sent automatically. Your ad will be shown to potential buyers. Searching for products is now easier and more interactive. Retailers and e-commerce companies are using AI to drive more sales to more consumers and can do so with less overhead, resulting in higher profit margins.
Small Business Technology News #5 – Unpeelable Nano Banana Pro: Powered by Google's upgraded AI image generator.
Ruben Circelli PCMag We tested Nano Banana Pro, Google's upgraded AI image generation tool built on the Gemini 3 Pro model, and found it to significantly improve text rendering, multi-image blending, and creative control. Circelli emphasized that Nana Banana Pro outperforms the original Nano Banana tool, making it a strong choice for both casual users and professionals who need sophisticated visuals, infographics, and design mockups. Unlike most AI image tools, Nano Banana Pro can generate easy-to-read text within images, from short taglines to full paragraphs. Users can upload up to 14 images per prompt and combine up to 6 images at the same time, doubling the limits of previous versions. High-quality resolution is another feature, with images produced at “approximately 2K resolution,” which is a big improvement, Circeli said. One weakness Circelli pointed out was prompting Nana Banana Pro to take a photo of the living room and insert an Amazon product into the photo. Prompto could only do the opposite, replacing Amazon products with his personal items. (Source: PCMag)
Why this is important for small businesses:
Until now, AI-based image generation tools have been great but not necessarily ready for prime time. Nana Banana Pro promises to change this and make this tool a reliable tool for businesses to use. is that so? I'll try this out over the next few months, just like I did here, and report back.
