Rapid advances in the world of artificial intelligence (AI) have led many to predict that many jobs will be replaced by AI tools in the coming years. But Infosys founder Narayana Murthy thinks fears of AI taking jobs are overblown. In an interaction with Moneycontrol, the billionaire businessman said that there is no technological advancement that outweighs the need for human intelligence. “The most powerful tool God has ever invented is the human mind,” he said, citing the example of computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools introduced in 1975. That didn't happen in software development, where it was believed that CASE tools would reduce human resources.
Marcy recalls: “Everyone said that this (CASE tool) would eliminate employment opportunities for all young people in software development. That didn't happen. When the technology of case tools and program generators was invented, humanity We said we want to tackle bigger problems, more complex problems, and those tools can't do it.'' He predicted that advances in AI technology are inevitable and will become part of AI technology. However, humans must view AI as an “assistive technology” rather than a complete replacement for human labor.
“Concerns about losing jobs will be replaced by discussion, discussion and thinking about how to use AI, generative AI, large-scale language models, etc. to further increase human productivity,” Murthy said. I think it should be done.”
The veteran tech giant said AI technology should replace human jobs in areas such as “operating machines in dangerous situations like nuclear reactors.” He was also optimistic about how AI technology could provide breakthrough solutions, such as use in “remote surgery and precision instruments.” .
This is not the first time Murthy has expressed optimism about the adoption of AI technology. Back in February, he attended the 67th foundation day of the All India Management Association. During the event, he mentioned the book “Bridgital Nation: Solving Technology's People Problem'' written by Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, and talked about N. Chandrasekaran's perspective on leveraging AI for the betterment of humanity. He said people should learn.
He said AI tools will give people more free time, but humans are naturally curious, so they will use this free time to come up with more inventions. He recalled that in the past many people thought that computers would take over all important tasks and make people powerless, but in reality that did not happen.
