What is this model? And why are they having problems? Sounds like it solves the problem?
00:03 Speaker B
Yes, this is the Spark model, right? And this is what came out. It was that announcement, I mean, it was a big deal. You know, it wasn’t a big deal. This was after Alexander Wang joined the team. Oh, and this is after the issue with their big AI model, Behemoth Llama. It was delayed, delayed, delayed, delayed, and they just decided to kill it. And the spark was supposed to be like, hey, you’re back, you’re there. It’s not our biggest model. You know, it’s not like the best that we can currently offer. We’re working on it, but so far: Unfortunately, according to the report, there are no APIs available to developers at this time. Essentially, you can think of an API as a way to connect one piece of software to another. They plan to make this available to developers so they can use it to plug Spark into their own applications if they wish. It’s not there yet. So after seeing that, Meta went out and spent all this money.

Well, that’s what I was going to ask you. If I’m a meta investor, I’m listening to this, is this a yellow flag? Am I worried about execution?
01:30 Speaker B
What I mean is, it’s probably, uh, it’s not like a yellow flag, it’s not like a red flag. the
01:38 Speaker A
Is it yellowish?
01:39 Speaker B
Well, what’s in between? So this isn’t a blue flag, it’s green and yellow, but it’s more like an off-green
01:45 Speaker A
It is slightly more yellow than yellow.
01:47 Speaker B
Yes, yes. However, what bothers me a little is that there was a huge delay with Behemoth, but that didn’t happen in the end. And now we see that their partners are falling even further behind. When you think about it, they’re spending billions of dollars on AI capabilities. They hired smart people to develop this. The fact that they haven’t released this yet – and it’s coming soon – begs the question of what’s wrong with the meta. And you know, we really don’t know. They seem to have a high level of interest in what they can do and what they can do in the future. But reports of delays like this give us pause.
