Whoop, a screen-free fitness wearable with over 2.5 million users, announced it is introducing on-demand video consultations with medical professionals to its subscriber base.
According to Hoop announcement On Friday, users in the U.S. will be offered live consultations with qualified clinicians starting this summer. Whoop touts the fact that clinicians have access to a range of biometric data collected by the app and how that can help experts interpret users’ health information.
Of course, it’s probably no coincidence that Whoop’s announcement comes the day after Google and Fitbit released a Whoop competitor powered by Google Gemini.
To support users’ fitness goals, Whoop has also partnered with health records company HealthEx to provide electronic health record (EHR) synchronization. The partnership will allow Whoop users to track their health history, including diagnoses, medications, and procedures, directly from within the app.

“Unlike traditional medical experiences that rely on short, episodic snapshots, these consultations begin with a comprehensive understanding of a member’s health based on months of continuous data and, where available, blood tests and medical history,” Whoop said in a statement.
Many of Whoop’s newly announced features will be included in the paid membership, but live video consultations will come at an additional cost, which has not yet been announced.
“WHOOP is about membership, and we take that seriously,” Ed Baker, WHOOP chief product officer, said in a press release. “We’re always thinking about how we can deliver more value to our members. These upcoming features are some of the most meaningful things we’ve built to date, from bringing clinician support directly into the app to evolving AI coaching to be more personal and actionable than ever before.”
in a statement to CNBCWhoop said the live consultation feature is not a replacement for a primary care physician or emergency visit.
Whoop is also adding a range of new AI features, including live on-demand video consultations with medical experts, as well as AI-powered personalized coaching.
Speaking of personalized coaching, this is now accessible through My Memory, one of Whoop’s new AI features, which serves as a central place to view, manage, and train Whoop’s AI. Additionally, Whoop is also a proactive check-in feature that provides users with personalized recommendations, such as when to go to bed before a big event or reconfiguring a training plan based on the user’s travel plans.
