WHOOP announces and serves as founding chair of Massachusetts AI Coalition, formed to unite leading companies, builders and investors to advance AI innovation across the commonwealth
The coalition spans early-stage startups to global public companies, including WHOOP, Suno, Lovable, DraftKings, Wayfair, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Circle, Hi Marley, Blitzy, Phoenix Tailings, Duckbill, Jellyfish, Formlabs, Agency Inc, and 7AI.
The coalition is based on a shared belief that AI will transform every major industry, including healthcare, education, robotics, biotechnology and life sciences, defense, aerospace, and energy, and that Massachusetts, with its high concentration of talent, research institutions, and innovative companies, is uniquely positioned to lead that transformation.
As founding chair, WHOOP will help guide the early direction of the coalition, convening members around shared priorities while maintaining the coalition's open and collaborative multi-company structure.
“The AI revolution is here, and Massachusetts has all the ingredients to play a leading role,” said Will Ahmed, founder and CEO of WHOOP. “But leadership is not automatic and requires alignment. This coalition will bring together the Commonwealth's most ambitious companies, attract world-class talent, accelerate real-world AI adoption, and build an ecosystem that rivals the world's established AI capitals.”
Rather than operating as a traditional industry association, the Massachusetts AI Coalition will focus on very hands-on, direct engagement that drives results for companies and ensures that Massachusetts is in the most competitive position possible. Member companies will host and participate in events focused on sharing real-world AI use cases, retraining and retaining top talent, and attracting new companies and contractors to Massachusetts.
“Massachusetts has everything we need to lead the world in artificial intelligence, with the people, institutions and businesses already building what's next,” Governor Maura Healey said. “The Massachusetts AI Coalition brings together industry leaders to ensure breakthroughs that accelerate innovation, grow the economy, create jobs, and shape the future happen right here in our state.”
“AI is changing industries, companies, roles, and the very structure of work,” said Ryan Durkin, vice president of AI at Work at WHOOP. “The Massachusetts AI Coalition exists to help companies navigate that change together, to help new founders start and stay here, to help growing companies scale, and to encourage companies outside of Massachusetts to join us and build here. These in-person events will encourage everyone to share what's working in the field, what's not, and how to implement AI in ways that have real impact for our teams, our customers, and our organizations.”
In its first year, the coalition will plan and support events across five major formats. Hands-on building sessions and hack days. Connection-driven networking for founders and operators. Product launches focused on new AI innovations. We also have community events that aim to make learning and building together accessible and fun.
The Massachusetts AI Coalition is actively seeking additional companies, venues, and community leaders to host events, co-lead discussions, and help build an open and impactful AI ecosystem across the commonwealth.
