Did Donald Trump play soccer with Ronaldo at the White House?
In November, US President Donald Trump posted a video in which he allegedly kept up and dribbled with Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo. The caption read, “Ronaldo is an amazing guy. It was a pleasure meeting him at the White House. So smart and cool!!! President DJT.”
The post received 4.9 million likes on President Trump's official Instagram account, but the majority of comments were about the AI-generated video, even though it was not credited as such.
First, the ball doesn't seem to have affected either Trump or Ronaldo's bodies. Second, the rotation of the ball does not match the actual movement of the soccer ball when it is kicked. Third, while it has been confirmed that Ronaldo did indeed visit President Trump in November, it is unlikely that they would be playing soccer in the Oval Office.
This soccer video looks relatively harmless. However, if you create or share an AI video online without making it clear that it is artificially created, it may be shared under the assumption that it is genuine. When watching a video, it's important to remember that if you don't believe it's real, sharing it can spread misinformation.
