We had an AI pick our Oscar ballots. Strangely I failed, but I still won.

AI For Business

This year, at the annual Oscar party hosted by a friend, I tried something different. I entrusted my ballot to Claude at Anthropic.

It didn’t go well at first, so I asked them to tell me just the winners. Claude responds with a confident selection across almost every category. And it worked.

I won the pool and went home with a box of chocolates and bragging rights.

But here’s the punchline. Claude hadn’t even fully completed the assignment.

A new category at this year’s Oscars, Casting, was unable to select a winner. Could it be that the model is not registering the addition?

And in several other award categories, Claude chose candidates who were not even on the shortlist. Take a look at the photo above to see what went wrong.

However, my vote, with Claude’s help, still exceeded everyone else’s vote at the party.

This feels like a glimpse into the jagged edges of AI. The system is clearly powerful, but sometimes weak, but still good enough to win.

I won’t be the only one showing up next year with an AI-generated ballot.
