Wasim Akram has denied false rumors about his death on social media after an AI-generated video claimed he suffered a heart attack. Shaniera Akram also posted a video of herself in the gym to refute this claim.

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has denied false claims circulating on social media that he died after an AI-generated video purportedly showed him suffering a heart attack.

In response, Akram posted a video on Instagram criticizing those who accepted the claims without verifying them.

“If you can’t tell fake news in this day and age, what good are we old men in our 60s?” he said.

He also said that some social media users asked him if he was alive, to which he sarcastically replied, “No, brother, I’ve been making this video since I died!”

Akram said the creators of the fabricated clip appeared to have put a lot of effort into creating the material, including hiring former cricketers Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar to spread the false claims.

“If they had used this heart for something good, they would have been very successful in life,” he added, before ending his message by thanking supporters: “I’m fine, thank you.”

Separately, Shaneela Akram also posted a video on Instagram of her husband working out at the gym. In the caption accompanying the video, she wrote, “In response to all the fake news and AI videos out there, I made this video for you. As you can see, he’s in the gym and looking okay!”
