New Delhi (Vishvas News). A dramatic video has gone viral on social media as the conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran continues into its third week. Footage shows people and vehicles in chaos, followed by people fleeing in panic after an apparent explosion. Users are spreading the clip, claiming it shows the recent Iranian missile attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
An investigation by Vishwas News revealed that the viral video is not real and was actually generated using AI.
What is a viral post?
On March 17, 2026, Instagram user “thenewscartel” posted a video (archive link) with the following caption: “Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar – March 16, 2026: Yesterday (March 16, 2026), Iran launched a ballistic missile and drone attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in the Middle East, located near Doha. The Qatari Ministry of Defense officially acknowledged the incident: Multiple missiles and drones fired from Iran intercepted most of them, but there were no casualties and smoke rose in the sky.
The post received approximately 1.5 million views.
investigation
We have closely investigated the video to confirm that the viral claims are true. In the footage, one person can be seen walking backwards while the other appears to disappear and then reappear. Additionally, as people begin to flee, their bodies begin to appear distorted. These anomalies led us to suspect that the video was likely generated by AI.
We then analyzed the video using Tencent’s ‘Zhuque AI’ video detection tool and estimated that the probability that the content was generated by AI was approximately 80%.
Hive Moderation assessed the likelihood of being generated by AI to be approximately 57%.
For further verification, we shared the video with our partner, the Deepfake Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of the Trusted Information Alliance (TIA). Analysis of the screenshot using “AI or Not” showed that it was generated by AI 92% of the time.
This conclusively proves that the viral video was created with the help of AI tools.
What is context?
On March 4, 2026, the Qatari Ministry of Defense posted on its X (formerly Twitter) handle reporting an attack on Al Udeid military base in Qatar. According to the same post, two Iranian ballistic missiles targeted Qatar. Air defense systems successfully intercepted one missile, and the second missile struck Al Udeid base. However, no casualties or damage occurred as a result of this incident.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media Press TV reported dozens of waves of attacks (wave 57 on March 17, 2026) targeting US and Israeli assets across the Middle East.
According to an update posted on the Al Jazeera website on March 19, 2026, US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that further attacks on Qatar will destroy the South Pars gas field. This follows a major retaliatory attack by Iran on Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial city, which affected global energy prices.
The Instagram account that posted the AI-generated video has more than 38,000 followers and has been active since March 2025.
