Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Education Department has implemented a number of initiatives to improve coding, computational thinking, artificial intelligence (AI) will be provided to more than 5 million students in grades 6 through 8 in approximately 45,000 public schools.
The course will be introduced from the academic year 2024-25. Developed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the course will be part of the science subject. SCERT has already prepared textbooks for all the three classes that the Prime Minister will soon commence. Yogi Adityanath.
Once considered a skill only available to the tech-savvy, coding and computer programming have now emerged as one of the essential tools in the holistic personality development of a student. Coding platforms have become an integral part of learning at the school level. Given the importance of technology in today's competitive world, NEP-2020 has made coding compulsory from class 6 onwards.
As part of the course, sixth-graders will learn Microsoft Word, programming, Python and other computer science fundamentals, while seventh- and eighth-graders will learn network and cyber security, logical thinking, Microsoft Excel, data and AI.
Pawan Sachan, Director, SCERT said, “Introducing coding at an early age and increasing exposure to technology will go a long way in ushering young people into a new world of innovation and creativity, giving children an opportunity to set goals for themselves and reach new heights.”
After developing the book, SCERT is currently finalising the training modules for master trainers who will train teachers at the district level.
Director of School Education Vijay Kiran Anand said, “As per the NEP directives, SCERT is partnering with experts and organisations to ensure future-ready content and curriculum implementation, teacher training and regular assessment in financial intelligence, business intelligence, coding and AI. This will make government school students more competitive.”
