Using AI to help businesses leverage social media | Chennai News

“This is the best time to start a business. All companies, start-ups and established players, need to reset their product strategy, otherwise AI will create disruption,” says Srivathsan Venkatesan, co-founder and chief executive officer at HighPerform, sitting in his noisy office at Alwalpet intersection in Chennai.

This is a once-in-a-decade opportunity, like the move to cloud, he says, referring to the introduction of artificial intelligence and the disruption it is causing in the software services business. He founded social management product Hyperperformr with Ramesh Ravishankar in July 2023. A love for Chennai is what bonds the two founders more than anything else.

After working in Silicon Valley, Srivatsan returned to Chennai and has been involved in several startups as a co-founder and employee since 2007, when the ecosystem was not yet mature. “I always wanted to be in Chennai. Chennai empowered me to take risks,” he says.

Having worked in startups in India and the US, he was exposed to product development as well as being a developer. Both founders were part of the so-called “Freshworks Mafia,” a group of startup founders who came from Freshworks.
Highperformr is an artificial intelligence-native software-as-a-service (SaaS) product targeted at B2B companies to generate content with context, provide collaboration, and manage workflows, social selling, and analytics.

Chief marketing officers of companies are facing the challenge of generating sales leads without spending money as the market gets tougher, says Ramesh. After completing his business studies, he sold bikes, pay phones and FMCG products in remote areas of India before moving into online sales and the internet industry. His experience working in rural areas helped him understand unit economics better, says Ramesh.

“Salespeople aren't getting as many conversions as they used to, and conversions have plateaued. Every company targets the 5% of customers who will take action to buy now. We want to reverse this and target the 95% of customers who aren't buying now but may buy someday. This allows us to build pipeline with less investment,” he says.

The startup uses multiple proprietary AI models including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude to fine-tune and personalize for each customer, allowing users to expose and personalize at scale to find potential customers.

While AI models can generate plausible writing, Highperformr, trained on customer data, delivers social media posts with a tone, style and structure that resembles a company’s specific purpose and goals, with many more knobs that allow businesses to control the output.

Ramesh said the platform has AI-based analytics that show which posts were effective, helping businesses find potential customers and generate leads. The long-term goal is to build a social customer relationship management (CRM), where the platform will automate every aspect of the role, from content to distribution to engagement.
