UPES School of Advanced Engineering Provides Essential Core Skills for Students

AI and ML Jobs

Globally, India today is seen as a good investment destination. We are a young country (and getting younger!), literacy continues to rise, and our standard of living is improving, as is access to disposable income and healthcare.

The driving force behind these improvements is an economy underpinned by strong firms, new entrepreneurs, and a policy and regulatory framework that makes it easier to start a business and harder to fail. The Indian government’s Gati Shakti program and growing focus on infrastructure is not only creating jobs in core sectors such as manufacturing, construction and engineering, but also creating avenues for tomorrow’s businesses.

The Make in India program prioritizes homegrown businesses and products. This means our business can invest in research and development, improve our products and processes, and create real differentiators in areas other than the cost arbitrage that cheap rupees bring.

Moreover, India is one of the few countries most affected by climate change and is at the forefront of discussions on climate change mitigation. Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Or the fact that we are already on our way to becoming one of the world’s largest green hydrogen suppliers. Alternatively, India’s solar potential far exceeds the electricity produced by all fossil fuels combined.

We are more than just a country of IT talent

What we need now is an army of dedicated, well-educated problem solvers. Civil engineering today is more than just building roads, tunnels, bridges and dams. By doing so, we respect the environment. It means working within the constraints of terrain and local ecosystems, but creating infrastructure that will withstand the test of time and the ravages of a changing climate.

Meanwhile, electrical engineering has been made unique by microelectronics, massive integration and 5G technology (and beyond), ushering India into the era of precision manufacturing. Meanwhile, smart grids, AI/ML (biomimetics, regeneration engineering) and advanced industrial drives (sustainability engineering, climate change, disaster management) are putting us at the forefront of renewable energy and its use and improvement. bring. used in our industry.

Mechanical engineers work hard to solve and improve problems in thermal fluid systems, advanced manufacturing and, of course, defense technology updates. Automotive design is a unique frontier. We are one of the few countries pursuing both EVs and hydrogen-powered vehicles. Our problems require homegrown and unique solutions.

This is also where chemical engineers are expected to flourish. As our reliance on wind and solar power increases, we as a nation need to break through the limits of our energy systems and storage. We must find our own way on how to allow our 1.4 billion people and fast-growing economy to grow in line with their wishes without polluting the planet. This includes expanding our knowledge base, developing new processes and technologies, and innovative ways of applying the technologies that exist today to achieve tomorrow’s goals.

Of course, you don’t switch from oil overnight. Even moving away from fossil fuels, there is great opportunity to harness these fuels in ways that maximize their benefits while minimizing their negative impacts. This is where petroleum engineering can play a big role. From improved energy systems and storage, to gas engineering informatics that help improve safety and reduce pollution, to intelligent petroleum systems that help us make the most of our resources. This enables a seamless switch to renewable energy without wasting existing investments and infrastructure.

Of course, we cannot talk about India’s future without mentioning its space program. Our space program is a testament to Indian ingenuity and frugal engineering. India reached Mars at a fraction of the cost of similar programs in the West. Today we are investigating our own low earth orbit satellite program. As space exploration becomes mainstream again, India is expected to take its place on the global (or should we say universal?) stage as a major player. For aerospace engineers, the sky is no longer the limit.

Has academia caught up?

Fortunately, yes. All the fields and subjects mentioned so far are covered in the programs offered by the Faculty of Advanced Engineering at UPES. In addition, UPES offers students the opportunity to customize their degree according to their individual needs by choosing between academic and skill-based study paths. This includes core and specialized courses, exploratory courses, interdisciplinary electives, life skills courses, signature courses, and social internships.

Engineers emerge from UPES ready to solve real-world problems and challenges. This is evidenced by his 100% placement record and his 61st ranking in the Engineering category by his NIRF 2022 in Indian Universities. The university enables students by providing them with unparalleled access to the nation’s best research professionals, state-of-the-art infrastructure and a vast network of like-minded collaborators who share a vision . The institution also runs a startup incubator program called ‘Runway’, which provides essential resources such as funding, mentoring, and accelerator workshops to help students realize their entrepreneurial spirit. I’m here.

Like everything else, strength is in the core. As we seek to build a nation, economy and identity we can be proud of, we must build from the ground up. Our country has always been a hotbed of engineering, and for good reason. Now we can use all our engineering knowledge and expertise to build ourselves to reach the heights we aspire to.
