UOB deploys initiatives to help employees do more and get faster using AI

Applications of AI

Singapore – On October 1, UOB introduced an initiative to increase productivity by providing employees with Basic Generated Artificial Intelligence (GEN AI) and automation skills.

The third largest bank with Singapore's assets is developing talent to undertake advanced digital roles such as data science.

I'll talk at Uob Plaza on Raffles Place On October 1st, UOB CEO Wee Ee Cheong said employees must preempt the skillsets of a ever-changing world.

“The technological disruption is changing the way we work. We have to avoid, mature and adapt continuously. Using AI allows people to do more and get faster.

“At the same time, our people must also be responsible for continuing aging and reskilling so that they can make a better contribution,” he added.

His comments come when the bank has supported this aspect by signing memorandums with the Banking Finance Institute (IBF), Workforce Singapore (WSG), and NGEE Anpolytechnic (NP).

The initiative is expected to equip bank employees with the skills and adoption strategies they need, and will help them tap on Gen AI to help them accelerate productivity and operational efficiency.

Under the MOU, UOB has partnered with IBF to develop industry-aware IBF-aware training programs, in line with financial services skills frameworks in areas such as Gen AI, digital literacy, data flow ency, and access training grants.

The bank also implements AI prompt craft workshops certified by the IBF, allowing employees to learn how to leverage AI tools to increase productivity in their daily work.

IBF also continues to support UOB in job redesigning and employee future prevention by combining technical training with a structured career development plan. The bank will work with the IBF Career Advisory team to develop employee initiatives to support career growth and resilience.

UOB will work with WSG to develop employee initiatives alongside the Career Health SG Initiative to support career growth and agility.

This includes tapping on WSG's career conversion program to redesign jobs that are most affected by technology and AI, and developing career plans that support employee development and reskills and take on new growth job roles.

UOB and NP work together by embedding behavioral prompts into their learning journeys and measuring their effectiveness. This will be a use case for NP research and curriculum development.

Deanton, Group Human Resources Director at UOB, said AI will help employees focus on the gaps in their work and bridge knowledge that are more valuable.

“AI is a powerful enabler that not only allows you to focus on more valuable jobs that require judgment, creativity and critical thinking, but also helps you to bridge knowledge gaps and give you confidence to test new roles.”

This new initiative will build on existing efforts by banks, such as the Better U Pivot program. This helps employees move into roles in their growth field through personalized skill assessments and structured career pathways.

The bank's new Academy of Innovation will enable development and access to AI, data and blockchain courses for all employees.

Segment's Vice Chairman Ivan AW said Digital Engagement and Digital Engagement in Private Banking is a better U-pivot program It gave him the confidence to move into his current role. The 50-year-old previously served as a sales management role for cards and insurance.

Participants like AW received mentorship from coaches and recruitment managers. Managers provide guidance and support for those adapting to their new roles.

“That's what I'm grateful for. It's not a general training program where everyone just attends. They actually go to a granular level to understand what a new role needs.

“So I helped me quickly reskill my new role,” AW said.

Through training, he developed the skills to visualize data analytics to analyse campaign results and campaign performance. He was also trained to use the GEN AI tool to move into a more productive and current role.

He currently taps GEN AI tools such as Copilot to perform tasks such as personalizing content specific to each client, summarizing and interpreting 100-page reports. data.

He added that such tools are now essential to his daily work. “I can't live without it,” he said.
