Uncovr raises $7 million to build AI infrastructure for surgery

Uncovr, a surgical AI startup focused on clinical documentation and workflow intelligence, has raised $7 million in seed funding. The round was led by Index Ventures with participation from Seedcamp, Frst, No Label Ventures, Entrepreneurs First, and a group of healthcare and technology businesses including Digital Surgery founder Jean Nehme, Color Health CEO Othman Laraki, and Meta board member Charlie Songhurst.

Founded in 2025 by Professors Ines Iraki, Johann Diep, and Eric Vibert, Uncovr develops AI technology that analyzes surgical procedures and automatically generates surgical reports and procedure coding recommendations from surgical videos and intraoperative workflow data.

The company addresses long-standing challenges in medical documentation. Although more surgical procedures are being videotaped, especially in robotic and minimally invasive surgeries, the majority of surgical reports are still handwritten after the procedure has been performed. These reports form the official clinical and legal record of the surgery and play an important role in patient care, hospital reimbursement, compliance, and future treatment decisions.

Uncovr’s platform analyzes surgical and endoscopic video recordings in real-time and drafts structured surgical notes and documentation before the surgeon leaves the operating room. All output will be reviewed and approved before submission.

Documenting in procedural data rather than retrospectively can improve clinical accuracy, coding quality, reimbursement consistency, and continuity of care, according to the company. The platform also creates searchable procedural records that can be used across quality assurance, compliance, research, and operational workflows.

The company said the initial implementation also highlighted documentation-related reimbursement gaps that are often undetected through traditional review processes, highlighting the operational and financial impact of incomplete surgical reporting.

Beyond documentation and coding, Uncovr aims to transform surgical procedures into structured clinical datasets that can support future healthcare systems, research initiatives, and AI-enabled surgical technologies.

Uncovr is already working with hospitals in the U.S. and Europe, and says its implementation pipeline includes more than 400 operating rooms. To date, thousands of hours of surgical procedures have been analyzed through this platform.

This new funding will support continued product development, expanded hospital deployment, and further development of the company’s AI models for surgical documentation and workflow analysis.
