The United Arab Emirates has announced a ground-breaking initiative, AI for Development, pledging US$1 billion to support artificial intelligence projects across African countries. The program is designed to foster economic and social progress by strengthening digital infrastructure, improving government services, and increasing productivity across key sectors.

The implementation of this initiative will be led by the Abu Dhabi Export Authority (ADEX) in collaboration with the UAE Foreign Assistance Agency and the Abu Dhabi Development Fund. We aim to integrate AI technology into critical sectors such as education, agriculture, and infrastructure to provide innovative solutions to development challenges while creating opportunities for sustainable growth.

This initiative is also in line with the UAE’s broader strategy to build a knowledge-based economy and position itself as a global hub for artificial intelligence. Through a combination of technology, financing, and strategic partnerships, the program aims to enable African countries to leverage AI to accelerate inclusive development and strengthen economic resilience.

Through this initiative, the UAE continues its long-standing support to African countries, which includes more than Dh152 billion in aid since 1971. The program builds on the UAE’s tradition of humanitarian and development leadership and reflects the UAE’s commitment to improving living standards and fostering global cooperation.

By advancing AI-driven development projects, the initiative aims to highlight the UAE’s role as a global center of innovation and smart technology, delivering creative and impactful solutions that drive modernization, inclusive growth and sustainable development across the continent.
