UAE emerges as global leader in AI, driving innovation and future technologies

AI For Business

The UAE's vision for AI is outlined in the National AI Strategy 2031, which aims to position the country as a global leader in AI by integrating AI across various sectors. More than just a roadmap, the strategy is a testament to the UAE's forward-thinking approach to harnessing the power of AI for socio-economic growth.

The UAE made headlines when it became the first country to appoint a Minister for Artificial Intelligence in 2017. The move underscored the country's commitment to embedding AI at the highest levels of government, ensuring AI policies and initiatives receive focused attention and resources. The country also launched Smart Dubai, an initiative of the Dubai Future Foundation, which aims to transform Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world. AI is at the core of this vision, driving smart governance, efficient resource management, and improved quality of life for both residents and visitors.

According to a survey by Boston Consulting Group (BGC), artificial intelligence is not new, but it has attracted widespread public interest. The survey found that people are surprisingly familiar with and interested in AI. Business leaders must understand and not underestimate their consumers when developing and deploying AI-enabled solutions. Overall, 75% of survey respondents have used ChatGPT or another AI-driven tool. In markets such as India, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates, AI usage rates exceed the levels of so-called mature markets. In the United Arab Emirates, 91% of consumers are aware of GenAI and 34% have used these technologies.
