This simple AI trick can turn any YouTube video into a note

AI Video & Visuals

Long YouTube videos are packed with useful information, but it’s not always practical to find the time to rewatch them or take manual notes.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, there is a simple trick that allows you to turn many YouTube videos into concise summaries, study notes, and key points using AI tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot. Best of all, no browser extensions or paid software are required.

Step 1: Open the video transcript

Many YouTube videos include automatically generated transcripts.

Open the video on your desktop,[その他](3-dot menu depending on the interface), click[トランスクリプトを表示]Select. The transcript will appear in a panel next to the video. You can copy text from there.

Not all videos have transcripts enabled. Especially if the author has disabled transcripts or captions are not available.

Step 2: Paste into AI tools

Once you’ve copied your transcript, paste it into your favorite AI assistant.

Use specific questions instead of vague ones. for example:

  • “Please summarize this video in 5 bullet points.”

  • “Please tell me the important points.”

  • “Please turn this record into a study notebook.”

  • “Please explain this to me as if I were a beginner.”

  • “Create a revision guide with headings and bullet points.”

The more specific the prompt, the more useful the output can be.

Step 3: Always double-check your results

AI is good at compressing long transcripts, but it’s not perfect.

Large language models can misinterpret context, omit important details, and introduce inaccuracies. For anything related to education, work, legal issues, or health advice, it’s worth comparing AI-generated notes with the original video before trusting them.

AI tools are particularly good at processing large amounts of text, making YouTube transcripts an ideal input. Rather than replacing the original content, you can review long lectures, interviews, tutorials, and podcasts much faster using this method.
