“I think Meta has everything we need to achieve something close,” Wang told TBPN.
If you're a “hotshot” AI scientist, Meta's chief executive, AI executive Alexandre Wang, has created his latest pitch to plead with his team for you.
Technology talk show TBPN on Wednesday asked Wang about how he would hire for the team he's building, the Meta Superintelligence Labs.
“I think Meta has everything we need to achieve something close,” Wang told TBPN. “There are no obstacles.”
His pitch can be summed up in four parts: Meta's computing power, talent, team size and boldness.
First, Wang said Meta has a lot of computing power to train AI models.
As the AI race intensifies, Meta has fine-tuned its capital spending guidance this year. With its latest quarterly profit, Tech Giant said it adjusted the bottom of the CAPEX range from $64 million to $66 million, keeping the top of the range at $72 million.
“We have a business model that supports literally hundreds of billions of dollars of computing, and we can actually produce technology,” Wang says.
Second, Wang said that Meta has “an incredibly talented team.” He said one of the guidelines for building a team is that MSL members need to be in the “very top hands” of other AI labs.
Wang said the team of about 100 is smaller than the other AI lab teams. Zuckerberg previously said it would be ideal for small teams to drive research.
“To have this incredibly talented team truly proves to be a huge differentiator,” Wang said.
Wang shares how the team is structured, with the team focusing on research, products and infrastructure. Wang previously shared the MSL team structure in internal memos, Business Insider previously reported.
“We have the size of products and companies that can become incredibly bold and deploy something closely to everyone on the planet,” Wang said on TBPN.
Meta employs offensive and expensive AI talent. In June, they made headlines with a $100 million signature bonus to lock down recruitment in Cutthroat AI races.
The competition reached another level when Wang recruited in June as part of a $14.3 billion deal to acquire a 49% stake in Scale AI.
However, Meta delayed employment last month. In a statement to Business Insider, Meta called for a job freeze on the “basic organizational plan” for the artificial intelligence sector.
