The latest job cut comes months after Atlassian billionaire CEO and co-founder Mike Cannon Brukes defended the private jet purchase. In March, Cannonbrook defended the decision to use the professional networking site LinkedIn to acquire the Bombardier 7500, an aircraft worth over 75 million US dollars, saying the purchase could make him a “current dad.” The latest layoff was reportedly also defended by other Atlassian co-founder and former CEO Scott Farker.
Atlassian CEO notified employees about layoffs
According to a report from Skynews Australia, Atlassian employees affected by this series of job offers were notified of job vacancies via pre-recorded video messages from Cannon-Brookes. In the video seen in the publication, the CEO spoke from his home office in a faded green hoodie.However, Brooke, the cannon, did not name the affected individual who reportedly had to wait 15 minutes for an email confirming their status. The affected staff had blocked laptops, but are expected to receive payments for the next six months, the report said. Meanwhile, Farquhar, another co-founder of Atlassian, reportedly defended the layoffs, stating that AI companies should update Australia's copyright laws to allow unlimited access to mine data.In a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald, Farker said:People aren't going to call more if they make call center staff more productive [and] There are probably few call centre staff. As AI increases productivity and parts of our economy shrink a portion of our economy, parts of our economy grow significantly. ”Earlier this year, Atlassian faced criticism over the cannon Brook buying personal jets for more than $75 million, despite support for climate action and promotion of solar power. He is reportedly investing heavily in eco-friendly projects, including solar cables from Darwin to Singapore.In a post shared on LinkedIn, Cannon-Brooks wrote: “There are a number of reasons why I bought the plane. Personal security is the main reason (the unfortunate reality of my world), but I run a global business from Australia and still be a constant dad.”
