The President's AI Challenge calls for innovative AI solutions for learning and community

The White House has officially launched the Presidential AI Challenge, the initiative first announced in President Donald Trump's April 23rd Executive Order on AI Education. According to the Challenge website, the open competition for teachers, community leaders, middle school students, middle school students, and middle school students and high school students “inspire young people and educators to promote community challenges and capabilities.”

The student team will complete a project that involves researching, developing or using AI methods or tools to address community challenges, the White House said. Some of the proposed topics of special interest include:

• Make communities and schools safer.
• Designing healthier or more economical diet plans.
• Promoting healthy peer engagement and a safer digital future.
• Create a “skill report card” for students to go with their academic transcripts. and
• Help educators develop customized learning plans for students.

The educator-led project will focus on creative approaches to educate or use AI technology in K-12 learning.

According to the White House, the team recommends using “all types of AI technologies” in their projects, including generator AI, large-scale language models, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, robotics, computer vision, expert systems, decision trees, and neural networks.

Project submissions are expected to be paid by January 20, 2026. Eligible participants may choose to participate in the project and participate in the challenge contest. There, the team wins the opportunity to show off their work at the finalist event at the White House. The state champions will be announced on March 16th, with regional championships being held from March 27th to April 13th, with the national championship being held in June.
