One of the oldest and most famous AI image generators, Midjourney has a new direction. Following in the footsteps of its competitors, Midjourney now also offers AI video generation.
This new model, known as V1 video, allows users to upload images or create a short set of videos from there using images generated by Midjourney's V7 Image Generator.
“We're introducing the V1 video model. It's fun, easy and beautiful. Available for $10 a month,” said Midjourney CEO David Holz, who was announced in an X post and blog post.
Unlike other competitors in the AI video world, Midjourney cannot create videos from just the prompts. This could change in the future, but Midjourney is a few steps behind something like Sora and Kling 2.

What can you do with Midjourney V1?

The CEO of Midjourney launched the product and said, “Today's video workflow is called 'Photo to Video'. This means creating images in Midjourney as usual, but you can move them by pressing “Animation”. ”
There is an automatic animation setting that creates random motion prompts. For those who want more control, there is also the option to manually select the animation movements of the video.
When generating a video, you can choose whether it is a low or high movement (how much movement occurs in the video). Once the video is created, you can expand and add 4 seconds at a time. You can do this up to four times.
While images can be added and animated from outside of Midjourney, Holz added: “Use these technologies responsibly. Use them properly. Not only are they fun, they are truly useful, and they can also bring the old and new worlds to life,” he added.
This is alongside Midjourney's recent legal battle with Disney, raising concerns about the use of external copyrights in its training models.
How much does it cost to use?

As mentioned above, you can currently use the Midjourney V1 with a plan of $10 per month. But that could change soon.
“The actual costs to produce these models and the prices we charge are difficult to predict,” Holz added in the announcement post.
“We'll do our best to have access right now, and next month we'll see everyone using technology (or completely exhausting the servers) and we'll coordinate everything and make sure we're running a sustainable business.”
The problem is that the starting cost is already much higher than the image. Midjourney is charged more than 8 times more for video creation than images. That's still less than the average competitor, but the amount is likely to change.
You can make videos with the cheapest plans, but they will eat your credits right away. There are also slow but inexpensive versions of video generation available on the Pro model.
