The government will provide comprehensive policy support to domestic artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics companies and ambitions to turn the country into a global AI powerhouse, Finance Minister Koo Yun-Cheol announced on Friday.

The Minister made this commitment when meetings with leaders in AI, robotics and automotive industry and with officials from related ministries. The meeting took place at the head office of Hyundai Motor Group's Robot Lab in Wywan, just south of Seoul.

The rally is part of the government's active involvement with emerging technologies, following the release of the Lee Jen administration's five-year economic development plan. Blueprint highlights AI as an important driver of growth, and aims to establish a “ultra-infringing economy” according to the Ministry of Economy, Finance.

Koo highlighted the unprecedented speed of change, noting that it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain the pace. He warned that the global economy is in the “only the winners survive.”

“The government will deploy all the policy tools available to us to fully support our companies and enable us to develop world-class products and services in the AI, robotics and automotive sectors,” he said.

Participants also agreed that physical AI sectors represent important future growth industries, such as humanoid robots and self-driving vehicles. Korea's strong manufacturing capabilities and advanced infrastructure provide competitiveness in these areas.

Interestingly, conference experts highlight that South Korea's unique blend of cutting-edge technology and manufacturing capabilities could lead the global AI robotics market in the next decade.
