of EdExec Summit Tech & Learning’s new event brings together senior executives from companies serving the K-12 industry for a three-day networking conference dedicated to the business of education. Presenter Adam GarryDell’s Senior Director of Education Strategy, discusses the future of generative AI in K-12 educational technology.

“Since the pandemic, we have changed the nature of how we use technology in schools,” Garry says. “According to data from Future Source, 98% of school districts have implemented 1:1 systems for their students. It has changed the way technology is used as both a learning and operational tool in the educational process.”

This enhancement of our already popular and successful personalized learning technology allows us to go one step further.

“Generative AI could potentially generate a unique set of questions or reading material tailored to each student’s skill level,” says Garry. “It can also be used to simulate realistic virtual experiences and make topics more relatable and engaging.

For some students, this kind of accessibility improvement can be a learning lifesaver.

“Importantly, AI can detect learning difficulties early and provide timely interventions or act as a personal assistant for teachers, reducing time-consuming tasks and helping teachers improve learning outcomes. ,” says Gary. “The ability to create a performance-aligned rubric for her task and generate multiple examples for students to learn from will be a game-changer in assessment.”

Educate edtech customers about generative AI

A key step in introducing modern technology into the education sector is to make sure those most affected understand what it is and how it can help.

“At Dell Technologies, we are helping school district partners achieve this educational challenge through eight learning modules (free to school systems across North America) to explore the opportunities and challenges posed by the adoption of AI.” says Garry. “These include fundamental understanding, various AI models, rapid engineering, AI-powered tools and resources, integrity, ethics and privacy, learning, education, and digital citizenship.”

Gary suggests focusing on identifying misinformation and building skills to support these new digital literacies.

Generative AI Edtech and Management Tasks

At the recent Dell Technologies Innovation Summit, one of the school districts raised an issue and asked for help in scheduling a new elementary school that would allow more professional study time. After developing the basic elements, ChatGPT was used to create the schedule, making sure the concept and people were taken into account. The school system left the plan 80% complete in about 3 hours.

In another school district in Virginia, the entire instructional team and superintendent conducted a fundamentals session and a rapid engineering session. They created a memo for all principals with key considerations for stakeholders when using generative AI. The district’s new plans will allow it to move faster as it deploys generative AI to keep pace with evolving technology.

“Generative AI will likely revolutionize teaching and learning,” Garry says. “There is potential for more personalized learning experiences, where AI tailors the curriculum to the strengths, weaknesses, and pace of each individual student. It’s just me.”

4 Ways to Integrate Generative AI into Edtech Products

  • personalization – Implement AI algorithms that allow students to practice speaking and choosing and share resources that empower learners. It should also be applied to professional learning.

  • Support for Educators – Develop tools that enable educators to harness curiosity at every stage of the process. These tools help automate tasks and completely transform them.

  • Enhanced interaction – Use AI to create realistic simulations and virtual instructors that help explain complex concepts in an engaging way. Use AI as a tutor with appropriate prompts to facilitate personalized learning.

  • data analysis – Use AI for predictive analytics to identify trends in student performance and areas in need of intervention, but more importantly, empower educators to ask questions of the data and connect the answers to solutions. is to Done right, this is one of the biggest areas of transformation.

Garry says that the use of AI must be transparent, secure and respectful of privacy. “School districts create notes to companies when products are updated with generative AI, asking what data sources are feeding the model, where the data collected is going and how it is being used. You should ask if

6 Impact of AI on Teaching and Learning Processes

AI can impact teaching and learning processes in many ways.

  • efficiency-By automating administrative tasks, teachers can spend more time with students.

  • evaluation-Help teachers create performance tasks, create rubrics, and grade tasks. This allows teachers to provide more targeted feedback to learners.

  • personalization– Customize the learning experience and give learners a voice and choice.

  • better understanding— Provides a more interactive and immersive learning experience.

  • early intervention—AI can help identify struggling students and provide targeted support.

  • be a source of curiosity— spark curiosity as learners can explore many topics from different perspectives.
