This is the same dramatic change we have seen with the advent of computers, the internet and smartphones.

It’s very interesting, but it also bothers me. We expect a lot more to come with AI, but the big question is, “What’s the ethics about it?”

So how do we determine the ethics of these AI applications and how does that affect our economy and society?

There are some ethical concerns surrounding AI.

1. Prejudice and Discrimination

Data is the new oil, and we have a lot of it, but there are still concerns that the data AI has is biased and discriminatory. It has proven to be highly biased and discriminatory against certain ethnic groups, such as people of dark color.

2. Privacy

Another concern about using AI applications is privacy. These applications require huge amounts of data to produce accurate output and to achieve high performance. However, there are concerns about data collection, storage, and use.

3. Transparency

AI applications will be populated with data, but there is a big concern about the transparency of how these AI applications make decisions. Creators of these AI applications are dealing with a lack of transparency, raising the question of who should be held accountable for the results.

4. Autonomous applications

Rapid advances in AI must align with proposed frameworks and standards. Companies building or implementing AI systems must follow ethical standards and conduct evaluations of their applications to ensure transparency and privacy and account for bias and discrimination.

These frameworks and standards should focus on data governance, documented and transparent human oversight, and robust and accurate cyber-safe AI systems. Unfortunately, if companies do not comply, they will have to deal with fines and penalties.
