Andhra Pradesh police will use artificial intelligence (AI) extensively in enforcing law and order to prevent crime, establish evidence and reduce investigation times, Prime Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said.
Naidu said he was working on a large gathering of senior AI officers, students and AI developing companies during the AP Police Department's “AI 4 Andhra Police Hackathon” held at RVR & JC College in Guntur on Friday. He said 160 agencies have applied for participation, of which 60 have been selected for hackathons.
Based on the use case, the department said it would adopt new technology and complement existing drone surveillance, CCTV cameras, real-time governance and other initiatives, adding that it warned that development is only possible by ensuring law and order, and that there is no space for national criminals.
“We intend to show the world the strength of the Telugu people through AI and quantum valley,” Naidu said.
Andhra's WhatsApp governance is based on AI technology, and he said all certificates will be issued on the platform from coming August. “We're at the beginning of our AI era. Students have to focus on startup ideas,” Naidu said.
Referring to the fear of job losses caused by AI, the Prime Minister said there are many opportunities for students with the technology. He proposed that 30% of students would encourage startups to develop, while RVR and JC management ensure 100% placement.
Citing the former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy Murder case, he said Google Takeout helped establish evidence and highlighted the adoption of technology by police in investigations.
Invoking the Prime Minister a visionary that has transformed governance by leveraging advanced technology, Union Minister for Rural Development Penmasani Chandra Sekhar said that Amarabati's Quantum Valley will become a reality in the near future.
He said the Prime Minister has introduced many e-government initiatives in the past, and is currently focusing on AI and quantum technology. Naidu has now turned Hyderabad into an IT hub and is now aiming to turn Amarabati into Quantum Valley, Penmasani added.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said it was the first time a hackathon has been organized by police in the country.
DGP Harish Kumar Gupta said the initiative will help us rethink the future of law enforcement through generator and agent AI. Over 30 IPS officers worked closely with knowledge partner 4Sighitei to identify and refine the most pressing challenges in policing. As a result, eight real-world shocking use cases have been developed for direct deployment.
