Atclifford has continued to have a good relationship with Downing Street and understands SkyNews may return to support the government in the future.
A government spokesman told Sky News: “Matt Clifford has resigned from his role as prime minister. ai Opportunity advisor for personal reasons.
“The Prime Minister thanked the dedication to implementing and implementing the AI's Opportunity Action Plan. We build on this work to strengthen AI expertise across the government and cement the UK's position as the world leader of AI.”

Clifford told Sky News:
“I am grateful to the Prime Minister and the government for the opportunity to serve this opportunity and are extremely optimistic about the possibility of becoming a UK AI superpower.
“For family reasons, I will step back from my role as the Prime Minister's advisor on AI opportunities at the end of July, but I am pleased that this important work will continue throughout the government.”
Clifford was a lead reviewer of AI's Opportunity Action Plan and a member of the AI Safety Institute Advisory Committee.
As part of his AI support, Kiel IR I accepted all 50 recommendations that Clifford made in the Action Plan.

Clifford was appointed AI Opportunity Advisor for IR Kiel in January 2025.
His authority included advice on policies to expand the UK AI sector, including assistance with intake.

Clifford was also working to support AI talent and strategies to attract entrepreneurs to the UK.
He worked with previous conservative governments to establish the AI Safety Institute and the 2023 AI Safety Summit.
