Standalone Vibes Web App, Meta Testing of New Video Creation Tool

AI Video & Visuals

Meta’s Vibes has evolved significantly beyond its original role as a simple feed within the Meta AI app. While the company has confirmed that it is testing a standalone mobile app in Brazil and Mexico, TestingCatalog has spotted hints of a dedicated Vibes website that is currently listed as “coming soon.” The hidden features behind this site suggest a much more advanced product than what is publicly known.

The web version seems to welcome users with project-based workflows, allowing them to create and manage multiple video projects from a central dashboard. This transition moves Vibes from a casual scroll-and-generate experience to something resembling a full-fledged creative studio. The core editor mimics Reels’ familiar timeline structure, with dedicated tracks for video, text, music, and narration. This multi-layered setup allows users to create consistent multi-scene stories rather than one-off clips.

Character consistency is also a key feature, addressing one of the more technically challenging aspects of today’s AI video. Maintaining visual consistency of characters across multiple generated scenes is a persistent challenge in the industry. If Meta can reliably achieve this, it will close a significant gap with dedicated tools like Runway and increase pressure on OpenAI’s Sora.

In particular, references to Midjourney were found within the new Vibes application. Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, confirmed at launch that the company had partnered with Midjourney Labs and Black Forest Labs on early versions of Vibes while its model matured. The continued presence of references to Midjourney indicates that this partnership continues in the expanded product, at least for now. How this will ultimately integrate with Meta’s in-house developed Movie Gen model, which is specifically designed for high-fidelity video generation, remains an open question.

Meta is investing heavily across the generative AI stack, and Vibes is positioned on the consumer side of this effort. The standalone app strategy mirrors the Threads playbook. That means creating a focused platform, iterating quickly, and establishing your own identity. The companion website extends this reach to desktop creators, a demographic already targeted by competing tools like Runway and Pika. Given the rapid development, an official announcement is likely imminent.
