SpaceX plans to expand in the US

According to reports information Elon Musk’s space company said Wednesday it is preparing to build at least one new large data center in Texas.

This expansion will significantly increase the company’s AI computing capacity beyond its existing hub in the Memphis area, where it operates two data centers with approximately 1 gigawatt of computing capacity.

The company aims to expand into Texas to match or exceed its existing facility in the Memphis area.

According to the report, SpaceX has researched several potential data center sites in Texas in recent months. The company is considering building multiple data centers from scratch and renovating existing warehouses.

The latest report comes after SpaceX expanded its efforts to monetize its AI infrastructure, signing AI computing deals with Anthropic in May and Google in June.

The expansion is aimed at expanding computing capacity beyond its main hub in Memphis, Tennessee (the “Colossus” data center campus).

The proposed Texas operation could match or exceed the gigawatt-scale capacity of existing sites with hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs.

Additionally, The Information reports that the space technology company has already sent some of its existing data center staff to Texas in preparation for the expansion.
