SpaceX is offering Memphis area residents deep discounts on Starlink internet as its AI ambitions continue to expand in the area.
Customers with eligible addresses in the Memphis area can sign up for Starlink for half the standard monthly fee, and new and existing subscribers won’t have to pay upfront for hardware, xAI Memphis said in a statement.
The company tied the promotion to its growing AI infrastructure in the city, where xAI’s Colossus data center is located.
“The unique capabilities of the Colossus data center would not be possible without the partnership and support from the local Memphis community,” Michael Nichols, SpaceX vice president of Starlink Engineering, wrote about X on Tuesday.
“We are excited to bring affordable and superior @SpaceX @Starlink connectivity to our neighbors,” Nichols added.
Elon Musk also promoted the offer on X, simply posting that Memphis area residents could use Starlink for “half price.”
This promotion comes as xAI rapidly expands its presence in this space. Launched in 2024, Colossus has become one of the world’s largest AI computing clusters, powering Grok training and supporting the computing needs of Musk’s entire company. The campus continues to grow, including expansion near South Haven, Mississippi.
Meanwhile, the facility has also attracted scrutiny from local residents and environmental activists. Community groups such as Memphis Community Against Pollution have criticized the project’s energy use and emissions. Business Insider previously reported that the data center relies on producing enough methane gas to power about 280,000 homes, and local organizations have launched an effort to monitor air pollution and urge elected officials to take action.
Starlink offers are automatically applied to eligible addresses and reduce your monthly subscription price by 50% while waiving hardware costs. SpaceX has not announced when the promotion will end and did not respond to requests for comment.
