Snap has already shared its plans for AI-based advertising with its My AI chatbot, which was widely released last month. At his NewFronts showcase for advertisers on Tuesday, Snap said it was testing “sponsored links” on My AI, similar to how Microsoft is testing ads on Bing Chat.
Snap said in an announcement ahead of the NewFronts show that if someone is chatting with the AI about video games, it could trigger promoted links to related games. Discussions about food might prompt responses with links to local restaurants, stories about travel might come with advertisements from hotels, and so on. At NewFront in New York’s Lincoln Center, Snap also showcased new creator services, including new content, new video ad formats and a new platform for brands to connect with his Snap stars.

Snapchat is racing to become the first mainstream social media platform to incorporate ChatGPT, an AI text generator, into its service, ahead of Meta’s Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Reddit and others. At last month’s Partner Summit, Snap launched My AI for all users after experimenting as part of its paid subscription Snap service. My AI has become a source of fascination, curiosity, and a few moments of dread among users as people talk to their AI assistants and push them to the limits of their knowledge. After its release, reviews started pouring in, memes surfaced online, and users were concerned about how prominently My AI would appear within his Snapchat experience. Users were also concerned about how Snap’s AI perceives their location. Snap released an official statement, revealing that My AI only knows locations that Snap users have already granted access to the service through features such as his Snap Maps.
