SK Telecom (SKT) has announced that all AI units will be released by CEO Ryu Young-Sang.photograph) Leading the group that will invest approximately 5 trillion KRW ($3.5 billion) over the next five years.

The operator has set targets for AI-related revenues, reaching KRW 5 trillion by 2030.

In a statement, Skt said it will reorganize all AI capabilities and organizations into new AI CIC units to “drive AI innovation that will increase business productivity and efficiency.”

At the staff meeting, Ryu explained that he would launch a new structure that would link AI capabilities across the company so that he would not miss “AI prime time.”

He said SKT needs “both internal AI innovation from a demand perspective and AI business innovation from a supplier perspective.”

AI CIC integrates all AI-related businesses and services, including messaging, personal assistants for consumers and businesses, authentication, data centers, global partnership investments, R&D, and more.

The restructuring is expected to take effect by the end of October.

SKT outlined a major restructuring in December 2024 to enhance the competitiveness of Core Telecom and AI businesses.
