Events include:
• Summer Reading Challenge for All Ages: Find Your Voice, July 1st to July 21st. Register online at smrld.beanstack.com or at your library location. The finale will take place on Saturday, July 20th at 10am at 2145 Johnson Road. The event includes a t-shirt and foam party.
• Friends of the Library’s annual book sale will be held June 1-3 at the Wilson Park Ice Rink. Hours are 6-10pm on June 1st, 4-8pm on June 2nd and 9am-noon on June 3rd. Admission is $5 on June 1st and free on all other days.
• Shark Week All Ages Challenge, August 6-12. Complete the activity and win a prize for his $50 gift card to the St. Louis Aquarium.
• The Department of Youth Services’ Summer 2023 Reading Challenge, running June 1-July 21, includes a chance to win St. Louis Cardinals tickets. The participant must read 10 books to complete the challenge.
• Celia’s Sing A Long Dance Party will be held on Friday, June 9th at 2:00 pm at The Mill at 1311 East 20th Street, across from the Library Delmar Avenue.
• Speak up at the SIUE Outreach & STEM Center on Thursday, June 15th. Sessions are 11am-noon and noon-1pm at his Delmar Avenue location and are geared towards children ages 5-10. Space is limited. Call us at 618-452-6238.
• World Bird Sanctuary: Raptor Basics will be held at The Mill on Friday, June 16th at 2pm. The program also includes live birds.
• Chef Bananas’ Magic Show will take place at The Mill on Friday, June 23rd at 2pm. Fun, family-friendly shows feature comedy and magic.
• The Illinois Junior Chef Cooking Class will be held June 26-30 at the Delmar Avenue location for children ages 8-13. The program runs from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Due to space limitations, participants must be able to attend all classes.
• Hooping Harmony, Hula Hoop Show by Dizzy the Hooper, Friday, June 30th at 2pm at The Mill.
• Mad Science: Sounds Like Science takes place on Friday, July 7th at 2:00 pm at The Mill. This program focuses on sound and sound waves, with demonstrations and experiments.
• “My Own MESS” (Music, Education, Story, Science) with Will Stack will be held at The Mill on Friday, July 14th at 2pm.
• Storytelling by Shelly Norfolk takes place at The Mill on Friday, July 21st at 2:00pm.
• Shark Week kickoff will be on Friday, August 5th at 2:00 pm with representatives from the St. Louis Aquarium. Attendees will learn facts about sharks and meet ambassador animals.
• Play and Learn for Babies and Toddlers will be held June 9 and 23, July 14 and 28, and August 11 and 25 at 10:00 am at the Del Mar Avenue location.
• Saturday Play and Learn for Babies and Toddlers will be held on June 17th, July 15th and August 19th at 10am at the Delmar Avenue location.
• Storytime is Monday at 10:00 am at 2145 Johnson Road and Wednesday at 6:00 pm at 2001 Delmar Avenue.
• Lego will be served at the Delmar Avenue location every Tuesday from 5-7pm.

• Teen Art Take-Home Kits are available for students in grades 7-12.
• Teen Cooking: Cooking classes in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension. Aimed at grades 7 through his 12th grade, it will be held June 5-9 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Delmar Avenue. Teens should be able to attend all school days.
• Create Your Own Cartoon Character is scheduled for Friday, July 14th at 4:00 pm at the Del Mar Ave location.
• The Sharknado Craft Session for Teens and Tweens for Grades 5-12 is scheduled for Saturday, August 12th at 2:00 PM.
• The Teen Advisory Group will meet at noon on June 10th, July 22nd and August 19th at the Del Mar Avenue location.
• Nintendo Switch takes place Saturdays 1-4 at the Delmar Ave location.
• The Adult Summer Reading Challenge runs from June 1st to July 21st. Register at smrld.beanstack.com or through one of our libraries. If he reads 8 books, he will get a T-shirt.
• The Route 66 Roundtable will be held on June 3 at 1:00 pm at the Delmar Avenue location with Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway Officer Beth Bunger.

• Exotic plant identification is scheduled for July 13th from 2-3pm at the Delmar Avenue location. Learn about the invasive plants commonly found in Granite City and how to properly remove them to avoid fines, improve the environment and raise awareness of their impact. The program will feature Christopher Karl, curator and landscape architect of the Granite City Art and Design District.
• The Español/Ingles club de lectura bilingüe (Spanish/English Bilingual Book Club) will be held on Thursday, August 17th at 5:30 pm at the Del Mar Avenue location.
• The Book Club will discuss Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave on Monday, July 31 at 11:00 am at 2145 Johnson Road or Tuesday, July 25 at 6:30 pm at Delmar Ave 2001.
