Shaniera shares Wasim Akram’s gym video after AI death hoax

AI Video & Visuals

Shaniera Akram, wife of former cricketer Wasim Akram, took to social media to debunk an AI-generated video that falsely claimed her husband had passed away.

Shaniera shared a video of Akram training at the gym on her Instagram, putting an end to false claims that Akram died of a heart attack. Her video’s caption read, “In response to the fake news and AI videos out there, I took this video for you. As you can see, he’s at the gym and looks like he’s okay!”

Shaniera’s reaction came after an AI-generated video featuring Akram’s former teammate Shoaib Akhtar went viral, showing Shaniera announcing Akram’s death. In the video, the AI-generated Akhtar says, “It is with great sadness that the famous cricketer Wasim Akram has passed away due to a heart attack.”

Fans flooded Shaniera’s comments, slamming the growing misuse of AI in Pakistan and criticizing those who create fake content to generate views and profits.

Many others wished Akram a long and healthy life and praised his dedication to fitness.

The incident comes on the heels of another recent AI hoax that falsely claimed actors Taushieq Haider and Farah Saadia were married.

As the use of AI-generated content continues to rise in Pakistan, celebrities are calling on people to be more cautious about the content they consume and share online.
