WALLDORF (dpa-AFX) – According to Sabine Bendiek, Head of Human Resources at SAP, artificial intelligence will have a major impact on everyday work in the future. “Digital technology will drastically change jobs in quite a few places, and artificial intelligence is also a real accelerator for me in that respect,” a software company executive told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
AI can make a big contribution to productivity and help people, she added. AI has the potential to make things much easier, she said. For example, highly repetitive tasks can be taken over by AI. “Employees can really focus on using what makes humans so strong: creativity and the ability to look at results differently and act accordingly.”
Bendiek doesn’t realize that AI could wipe out many jobs. Jobs are changing and many new jobs are being created, he said. “We are seeing a shift in skills as a result, so of course we need to see how we deliver those skills to our employees and customers in the future.” The right mix of machines could also help better mitigate the ever-increasing demand for digital skills, he said.
His main focus now is to use AI to further automate business processes and improve the quality of decision-making for SAP customers. SAP is using AI in HR, for example in the form of chatbots. According to Bendiek, the chatbot received about 42,000 inquiries from employees last year and explained them independently. These are typical questions from employees looking for information about benefits, vacations, SAP’s flexible work model, and more.
To further develop AI applications in-house, SAP is also eyeing ChatGPT, the popular AI text robot from California startup Open AI, for example. “We think we have a lot of potential,” Bendiek said. SAP is also testing his cases for various uses at Heidelberg-based AI startup Aleph Alpha. “We will then assess how exciting this is in practice, including potential partnerships.” /rwi/DP/he
