Samsung Electronics' co-chief executives on Friday vowed to lead the company in strengthening its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities as global competition intensifies in the sector.
In his New Year's message, Jun Yong-hyun, vice chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics' Key Device Solutions (DS) division, which oversees the chip business, emphasized the importance of responding to the unprecedented demand for AI chips in the global market.
“Samsung Electronics is the only chip manufacturer in the world that provides a one-stop solution that includes logic chips, memory, foundry services, and advanced packaging,” Jun said in a message, adding that the company should leverage such strengths.
“We need to develop semiconductor-specific AI solutions based on the latest AI technology and high-quality data,” he added. “Achieving innovations in chip technology requires applying them to design, research and development, production, and quality control.”
Jun also said that Samsung's HBM4 business has demonstrated unique competitiveness in the market, and called on employees to continue strengthening the company's technological capabilities to withstand external uncertainties.
President Roh Tae-moon, co-CEO of Samsung's Device Experience (DX) division, which handles mobile, TV, and home appliance businesses, also emphasized the importance of adopting AI technology across Samsung products.
“The DX sector must tightly integrate AI technology into all devices and service ecosystems to provide the best experience for customers,” Roh said in a separate message.
“AI transformation is not just a tool, it's a process that fundamentally changes the way we think and work,” he said.
“We need to lead the market with overwhelming product competitiveness and crisis response capabilities.”
