Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to monitor social media and news websites with AI systems
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) aims to buy an artificial intelligence (AI)-based IT system that can monitor real-time online content from social media platforms to combat disinformation, according to a Hotnews.ro report. That’s what I’m talking about.
The AI also monitors news websites and blogs, as well as the accounts of the most influential figures such as journalists, celebrities and dignitaries who may spread misinformation and propaganda.
MAE launched a public tender on Saturday, June 10, to acquire an AI-based IT monitoring system. According to information from the Electronic Public Procurement System (SEAP), cited by Hotnews.ro, the deal is estimated to be worth more than Rs 3.2 million (€646,000) excluding VAT and will be funded with EU funds. It is expected to be offered and implemented within the next four months. .
This IT tool will be a web portal-based solution that allows designated personnel from the MAE to access the data and information they need. AI systems monitor the emotional impact generated by influencers, news websites, and articles. IT systems include, among other things, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) or open source online data collection modules for real-time monitoring of online content. This module should have features such as geo-segmentation, rapid detection, interaction monitoring, public data and metadata extraction.
The contract includes training ministry officials in the use of the developed IT tools. The tender specification stipulates that the data collection process from sources such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. must ensure a minimum of 500 GB of collected data per month at no additional cost to the MAE.
