Roblox launches ETBrandEquity, an AI technology that uses natural language to generate functional models

Machine Learning

Roblox on Wednesday announced artificial intelligence technology that can generate fully functional in-game models using natural language prompts. The company is actively pursuing machine learning to attract more developers to its video game platform.

The technology, called 4D Creation, was released in beta and builds on the company’s previous model that can generate static three-dimensional objects. The new model allows users to generate vehicles, interact with doors, and drive with accurate physics.

The move serves to lower the barrier to entry into Roblox’s developer community, which is user-driven and responsible for the games played on the platform, as the company looks to accelerate the creation of new titles and shore up its already vast user base. At the end of the third quarter, the company had more than 150 million average daily active users.

“You want to create objects, and that’s one way, and for an artist, visuals might be easy, but coding might be difficult. The other is game developers, who think visuals are hard and coding is easy. So we’re trying to bring all of that together, and our biggest goal is to enable players to create within their games,” said Anupam, senior vice president of engineering for fundamental AI and infrastructure at Roblox. Singh told Reuters.

Roblox is investing heavily in expanding server capacity to accommodate a rapidly growing player base, while also pouring money into “AI model development” and safety. This issue has come under intense scrutiny from U.S. state governments and international governments.

The 4D creation is part of Roblox’s larger push to develop AI world models that can understand the rules and dynamics of the environment to predict and generate future gameplay.

The announcement comes a week after Alphabet’s Google unveiled an AI model that allows users to simulate and generate real-world environments through prompts and uploaded images.
