Research: AI cannot replace soft skills

AI News

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Workers do not feel that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace communication technology in the workplace, according to a new Wiley survey.

In Wiley Workplace Intelligence's latest survey, the majority of respondents (80%) say soft skills are more important than ever as AI advances. This is according to a newly released report, “Taking the person Out of Interpersonal: Why AI Can Never Replace Soft Skills.”

And even though AI could make it easier to draft a quick email to deal with a sticky situation or resolve an office conflict, respondents said they were reluctant to do so. I'm not interested in taking advantage of it. In fact, 84% say they would rather have difficult conversations face-to-face than with AI.

“AI can automate time-consuming, mundane tasks and make our jobs easier, but it cannot replace the important human relationships that help make our work meaningful.” said Dr. Mark Scallard, senior director of product innovation at Wiley. “Employees seem to understand that treating each other on a personal basis is critical to building a productive workplace, strong teams, and a positive culture.”

When it comes to the future of work as the influence of technology increases, respondents cite communication (34%) and leadership (23%) skills as the most needed skills in the workplace, followed by adaptability (12%). I am. These are skills that probably cannot be replaced by AI bots.

Data for this report is based on a survey completed by 2,014 people in North America. Respondents work in different industries and in different roles.
