Girl committed suicide after being taken away for using AI during exam, father accuses school of abetting it While the police were investigating the charges before registering the FIR, the school principal told TOI that the students were reprimanded but not harassed and were told that if they cheated in the board exams, they could be banned from writing exams for five years. The 16-year-old girl allegedly jumped from an eight-story apartment building in the early morning hours of December 23, according to the minor's father. He claimed that he was deeply distressed after his daughter was reprimanded and humiliated by her teachers for bringing a mobile phone into the examination hall on December 22. The father said in his complaint that he has three children, all of whom study at the same school. The eldest daughter claimed that she had carried her mobile phone to school on the day of the exam “without realizing it.” She was found by the warden, who reprimanded her and alerted the class teacher. The student was then taken to the principal. The principal called the girl's parents to the school, and her father arrived shortly after. He claimed that the teacher and principal continued to severely reprimand and insult the student even in his presence. He also claimed that his teachers called him “inadvertent.'' The father claimed that his daughter was shaken by the incident and that the teachers' harsh words had a serious psychological impact on her. In his complaint, he named the child's class teacher Poonam Dubey, another teacher Thapas and the school administration, accusing them of encouraging his daughter to take the extreme step. He urged the police to register a case under Section 108 of the BNS (abetment to suicide) and other relevant provisions. He claimed his other two daughters were traumatized by the incident and were worried about returning to school. The school strongly denies the allegations. The school principal told TOI over phone that no student was harassed and the school followed standard procedures laid down by the Central Board of Secondary Education. “The female student was found with a mobile phone during the pre-examination. When the examiner checked her mobile phone, it appeared that she was using AI to get answers. The mobile phone was confiscated and she was taken to the director of examinations, who brought her to me,” the principal said. She said students were told that using such methods during CBSE board exams could lead to a ban from appearing in exams for up to five years. “Those were the rules, and the child was told only the consequences,” she says. The principal said the student's parents lived nearby and were contacted immediately, and they arrived at the school within 10 to 15 minutes. She said the interaction took place in the reception area and was brief.
