Prime Video has launched an AI-powered video season compilation in beta for select English-language Prime Original series in the US. Amazon is calling this the first application of generative AI of its kind.
This video recap is based on the 2024 release of X-Ray Recaps, which creates a spoiler-free text summary of important details about the show.
Amazon says the new feature is intended to give viewers a refresher before returning for a new season and is available for some originals, such as “Fallout.”
Video summaries use AI to identify a show’s most important plot points and combine them with synchronized audio narration, conversation snippets, and music to create a visual summary to prepare viewers for the new season.
“Video Recaps is a breakthrough application of generative AI for streaming,” said Gerard Medioni, vice president of technology for Prime Video. “This first-of-its-kind feature demonstrates Prime Video’s continued commitment to innovation and making the viewing experience more accessible and enjoyable for our customers.”
This feature becomes available when viewers move on to the next season of a supported series, and a summary button appears on the details page. Once selected, available summaries (such as X-Ray summaries) for that title will be displayed, whether video-based or text-based. From there, you can select your preferred summarization option.
