The scammers impersonated SM Lee's voice, overlaying the fake audio over actual footage of his National Day message last year and synchronising his mouth movements with the audio.
“This video is not real,” SM Lee wrote in the post.
Calling on the public not to believe investment advertisements featuring civil servants
SM Lee expressed concern about the rapid advancement of AI and deepfake technology.
“This is very worrying as people who watch the video may be fooled into thinking I really said those words,” he wrote.

He warned the public to be wary of offers that sound too good to be true.
“If you see or receive any fraudulent advertisements from me or any other public official in Singapore promoting investment products, please do not believe them,” the senior minister added.
Furthermore, SM Lee pointed out that scammers can be reported through the government's ScamShield bot on WhatsApp.
