Pope Leo warns of AI risks in first papal encyclical

Pope Leo

“Artificial intelligence now demands to be disarmed and freed from the logic that turns it into an instrument of domination, exclusion and death. Like nuclear energy, artificial intelligence must serve everyone and the common good. Decisions about technology must never be divorced from conscience or responsibility. Instead of fearing artificial intelligence, let us always keep human issues in mind. We cannot be careless when using the most powerful technological devices.” “Thank you to the Pope and the Church for taking on this task of discernment. We need a moral voice whose motives are uncompromising. Today is just the beginning, the beginning of a long collaboration between those of us who are building this and those who can see what we cannot see from within.” “Amen. Thank you.”
