Police have launched an investigation into claims by several lawmakers that the Malaysian News and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been threatened with pornographic video to provide technical support.
Investigation Minister Datuk Fami Fazil confirmed the investigation but said the issue is under investigation by police and MCMC will support it as a technical agency.
The threat first surfaced when former economic minister and Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafiji Ramri revealed he had been sent a porn video of a doctor allegedly featuring himself and another man. The anonymous sender requested USD 100,000 to prevent the release. Subang MP Wong Chen was also targeted by a similar email.
More recently, Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari says he is also a victim, stressing that the video used artificial intelligence (AI) technology to damage his reputation.
This case raises alarms about the use of content generated by AI due to fearful mail and political intimidation.
Authorities are under pressure to move quickly as lawmakers claiming threatening attempts with AI fuel grow in concerns about digital threats to politicians.
