hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police in Hyderabad has filed a criminal case against the administrators of a Facebook page for allegedly disseminating a defamatory AI-manipulated video targeting Telangana Minister D. Sridhar Babu and his wife Shailaja Ramyaiya, a senior IAS officer.The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by advocate Shashi Bhushan Kashe, a member of the state advisory committee of the Telangana State Electricity Board. He alleged that the administrator of the Facebook page ‘BRS Party Manthani’ posted a reel spreading false information about the minister.According to the complaint, the video uses AI-generated and digitally-enhanced images of the minister and endowments chief secretary Shailaja Ramyaiyah to allude to corruption and embezzlement related to the recent Saraswati Pushkaram event in Kaleshwaram, which both were cooperating with in their official capacities.Based on the complaint, Cybercrime Police filed a case on June 27 under BNS Article 336(4) (forgery with intent to damage reputation), Article 353(2) (utterances leading to public mischief) and Article 352 (deliberate insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). Police said they asked for the details of the page administrator from Facebook.
